The Flow Builder is a powerful and flexible tool within the Biometrid backoffice platform.
The Flow Builder enables clients to create customized flows for their customers to verify or enroll using biometric data. It serves various user cases, including verifying user age, online contract signing, identity fraud prevention, and KYC/AML compliance., but for this case study will focuses on the flow for opening a new account for a client. The Flow Builder empowers clients to automate decision-making processes, customise logic rules, and integrate seamlessly with existing systems using APIs and SDKs.
Backoffice is a comprehensive platform that offers clients a range of tools to manage and optimize their business operations.
The Flow Builder emerged as a solution to empower clients to create personalized and automated flows for customer onboarding, specifically for opening new accounts. The aim was to provide a secure and efficient process that leverages biometric data verification and integrates seamlessly with existing systems.
The existing account opening process lacked flexibility and automation capabilities. Clients faced challenges in verifying customer identities, preventing fraud, and complying with regulations like KYC and AML.
There was a need to design a user-friendly tool that would allow clients to create custom flows for opening accounts while incorporating biometric data verification and automating decision-making processes.
Research and user insights
To gather insights, we conducted user research through interviews, surveys, and usability testing. The research aimed to understand the pain points of clients and identify their needs and expectations regarding the onboarding process. Key findings from the research include:
Clients desired a flexible and customizable tool to create account opening flows according to their specific business requirements.
Biometric data verification, such as document verification and face recognition, was crucial to ensure accurate identity verification.
Automation and decision-making capabilities were highly valued to streamline the account opening process.
Seamless integration with existing systems and the ability to leverage APIs and SDKs were important for efficient data exchange and leveraging existing tech components.
Ideation and conceptualisation
Based on the research findings, we initiated an ideation phase to generate ideas for the Flow Builder tool. We brainstormed and sketched various interface concepts and user interaction models. The goal was to create an intuitive and user-friendly interface that would enable clients to easily visualize and construct account opening flows.
Design and Visual Identity
During the design phase, the team focused on creating a visually appealing and consistent interface that adhered to the established design system. They carefully selected color palettes, typography, and visual elements to enhance usability and facilitate user comprehension. The design system ensured that all components and interactions followed a cohesive visual style, promoting a seamless and intuitive user experience.

Wireframing and Prototyping
Selected concepts were translated into low-fidelity wireframes to validate the proposed design and gather feedback from stakeholders and potential users. Iterative feedback loops helped refine the wireframes, ensuring a clear and logical flow within the tool. Prototypes were created to test the user experience and gather further feedback, ensuring that the design system was properly implemented and enhanced the overall user experience.
Conclusion
The design process behind the Flow Builder for Backoffice successfully addressed the challenges faced by clients in creating personalized and automated account opening flows. By incorporating biometric data verification, automation rules, and seamless integration capabilities, the Flow Builder provided a powerful and flexible tool for clients to enhance their onboarding processes.
The launch of the Flow Builder marked a significant milestone, enabling clients to leverage biometric engines such as document verification, face recognition, online document signature, AML checks, and triggers with customizable conditions. The tool offered a user-friendly drag-and-drop interface and automated decision-making capabilities, empowering clients to create tailored and efficient user journeys.
Overall, the Flow Builder contributed to enhancing customer onboarding, enabling clients to verify user identities, prevent fraud, comply with regulations, and customize the account opening process. The successful design process and implementation demonstrated Backoffice's commitment to providing powerful, intuitive, and secure tools for its clients.
